As a company we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and see environmental improvements as fundamental to our business strategy.
These are the steps we have taken over the last 5 years to improve the impact our company and our products have on the environment.
🌱 Our Nature Garden – In 2019 we dug a new Wildlife Pond in an area of land next to the factory we wanted to develop into a Nature Garden – countrysideart.co.uk/pondlifechapterone/
Covid then intervened, but John Chapman (founder partner of Countryside Art and aged 80 at the time) spent lock-down planting hundreds of trees around the factory, including species such as crab apple and cherry trees to give the birds food in the winter months – countrysideart.co.uk/thegreenman/
Our Nature Garden (including a wooded area behind the factory owned by us) has blossomed into the most amazing wildlife area and teems with birds, badgers, butterflies and other and insects. Whilst the pond has newts, dragon files and even grass snakes visiting.
It has also provided a wonderful calm place for the team to visit during breaks (armed with their Bird and Insect Identification Guides, there is great excitement every time a new species is spotted!)
🌱 Our Solar Panels – We have covered a large portion of the factory roof with solar panels. So nearly 40% of our electricity is now from these solar panels and, in the evenings, the electricity created by them feeds back into the grid. (The Google Earth header photo for the blog shows the large area of the factory roof now covered with the solar panels).
🌱 Our Water-based Inks – We only use water-based inks for screen printing our custom tea towels, printed tote bags, custom aprons and other textile products – countrysideart.co.uk/our-ink-is-so-green-plus-every-other-colour-under-the-rainbow/
🌱 Our Environmental Energy Audit – We have recently carried out a 34-page Environmental Energy Audit, covering all aspects of the company.
🌱 Our Carbon Footprint Report – We have carried out an analysis, so we are aware of the amount of CO2 we produce in creating our products. Thus, enabling us to look at ways of further reducing our CO2 output year on year. We can advise customers for every £1 they spend on our products 0.1801 grammes of CO2e is produced.
🌱 Our Biodiversity Policy – which you can read here, shows all the amazing nature that has moved in to what was originally just a typical factory grounds.
It often seems that protecting the environment can be a daunting task at times. But by making gradual improvements, here at Countryside Art Ltd, we have proved that change for the better is possible.
So, when you purchase our printed tea towels, personalised bags, custom aprons and our other products, you are coming to a company that cares about the environment and is working hard to make a difference.
